About

Katie Elaine

When I was younger, I would travel through reading. I escaped my boring Utah suburb to wander over the moors of Yorkshire with the Bronte sisters or along the shores of PEI with Anne. I’d travel back in time and across continents without leaving my room.

Now that I’m an adult, I can actually travel to these locations in real life (although, I’m still working on the time travel part). I used to think that reading and traveling were ways for me to avoid reality, but now I think they help me feel it more deeply.

When I travel, I come alive! I see the details of the streets I’m strolling, I taste the new spices in the food I’m savoring, and I learn more about myself with each new location.

On Katie Elaine Travels, I’ll share all of this with you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you travel full time?

No. I work full time as an instructional designer in Salt Lake City, UT. I get 20 days of paid time off a year, and I make the most of them!

Where do you travel to?

I’d love to go anywhere! So far, I’ve spent most of my time in Europe, Canada, and the USA.

Solo or with friends?

I love both! A lot of my trips have been taken with my good friend Cristen. We met in the American Studies program at Purdue University as grad students. More recently, I started traveling solo because it’s more convenient to only plan for one person and then I don’t have to make any compromises.

What do you like to do besides travel?

Oh so many things! Just to name a few - tv and movies, reading, listening to my favorite indie bands, decorating my 1929 tudor house, building LEGO, hanging with friends and family, and going for walks around my neighborhood.
